Wickham Market Area Archive Centre maintains records relating to families, properties and events in the area of Wickham Market, in the county of Suffolk, England.

In 2023 a new Archive Centre was built, and on 6th May 2024 it will be officially named and opened.

Everyone is welcome to join us on Monday 6th May, between 10:30am and 4:00pm. The official naming and opening will take place at 11:00am.

As well as being able to see the new building, you will be able to look at several displays, including our Roman coins and pot, dating from 249 to 275 AD, banners that used to be paraded by the Foresters and Oddfellows, and many others.

After 6th May, the archives will be able to be viewed by visiting the Archive Centre on Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 10:30am and 12:30pm (no appointment is needed). For an appointment to visit at any other time, please phone 01728 746058.

You are welcome to visit the Centre to do some research, or just to see the set-up of the scheme. The "Records Held" page gives a list of the type of documents available.

The Centre is always looking for more material to add to its already extensive collection of books, maps, photographs and documents. These may be originals or copies. Photographs should have as much detail as possible - names, dates and places are the most important.

In addition to "old" materials, photographs and accounts of current events are required - it is surprising how quickly the present becomes the past!

Members of the Archive Centre have produced a number of publications which are available locally, and very reasonably priced. More information can be found on the Publications page.

Annual Membership of the Centre is available.

In 2024 we are again running a guided walks - "Historic Wickham Market". For more information, go to our guided walks page.
